I read a lot of ‘cute bohemian lady’ blogs, but they’re starting to kind of annoy me. It’s formulaic. Blog about the following: scultped plants (especially terrariums), DIY weddings, your oh so cute and scuffy boyfriend, your hipster pregnancy, your engagement ring, some random beautiful food (and the artisan cutting board/vintage bowls/one of a kind plates you serve it on), anything letterpress, tea towels and other home textiles, clothes that aren’t really functional. It’s basically an online lifestyle boutique, without actually stocking any inventory.

I still read a lot of these daily because they make me happy, and that’s the whole idea right? Cute home, cute couple, tra-la-la. I guess it’s just so far from my life that I end up wondering where the fuck I fit in, and where my peeps are. I’m kind of jealous. Who doesn’t want a gorgeous apartment filled with indie designs and quirky friends that run things like gem jewelry shops and organic wacky gelato companies but can somehow still afford to bring great wine (let alone pay their rent, in Brooklyn). Who wouldn’t want that? But, still, I’m more and more wondering where the normal girls are.

And I’m perplexed because a lot of these blogs charge for ad space, for what is essentially a selection of images from the internet in the previously named categories. Some of them have traffic higher than city newspapers. And yet the work has to be minimal for many of them. There are those who write, there are fantastic, hilarious, literary, blogs out there. And then there are those who curate stuff off the internet. The latter seems to get a lot of traffic (and ad revenue) for not a lot of heavy lifting. Which, good for them, I am one of their readers after all.

Of course what I’m saying is a kind of why aren’t I doing that.

I have several of these baggu bags in wild colors (without the mom heart) and I love them. Canvas tote bags are so lame, heavy, and easy to forget. These little baggus pack into a tiny pouch and turn up magically in my purse or jacket pocket right when I need them. I also bought myself several of the mesh veggie bags so I can stop coming home with twenty plastic bags wrapped around each tomato. A few of those are on the way to the momers also.

My mom lives in Paia, Maui and shops at Mana Foods–one look at the goddesses and dolphins on their website will tell you that my mom and her reusable bags are about to be a big hit.

Holy cow. Did you see this New York Times article on Neverland Ranch being auctioned off? MJ is apparently trying to block it, but this site has everything listed and the bidding has begun. Some hot stuff in there folks. And yes, creepy stuff. The furniture section (ew) is almost entirely porcelain figurines of children (ewwwwww). But the weirdness, and, oh! the clothing. There’s a lot of broken links on the auction site, but click around. You can’t look away.

Here’s what I’d go for, with the starting bids and estimated going prices.

Paul Bedard portrait, above, $200-$300

Sequin jacket, starting bid $100, estimated $300-$300

Triumph Tour pants, starting bid $50, estimated $100-$150

Triumph Tour hat, starting bid $150, estimate $300-$500

I couldn’t find this one on the site, but the NY Times listed it.

And I couldn’t let this go unnoticed: Tryptich painting, starting $2000, estimated $5000-$7000

Telluride Daily Planet does a quote of the day, every single day. Here’s her’s, sort of:

“I will have nothing to do with husband or lover…I shall not lift my slippers to the ceiling…this I shall do to end war…Come see the reading of Lysistrata today at 7 p.m. at the Telluride Community Room.” —The women of Lysistrata

And then, there’s always Cop Shop, which she has (fortunately) yet to appear in:

March 16
JETTISON: Arizona residents that had hitchhiked through the area last year reported they “had too much stuff” and lightened their load by jettisoning the duffle bag in a ditch.

March 16
MOVING TARGET: Kids lobbed snowballs at the gondola.

March 19
STOLEN: Skis.

March 21
BROKEN FACE: The tall guy held him in a headlock and the bald one crushed his orbital bone with his fist. Witnesses gave differing accounts, but among them were these nuggets: When one of the assaulters was asked his name, he replied “Satan.” And the punchee, before the fight started, was yelling “I will [kiss] your mother and your girlfriend.”

March 21
NOT THE BEST WAY TO CATCH A RIDE: A male and female hitchhiker threw rocks at cars on Lawson Hill.

March 22
ENTITLEMENT ISSUES?: Just because you’re in a limo, cops told the driver, doesn’t mean you get to drive the wrong way on a one-way street.

I love yiddish. Even when I have no idea what is being said (that’s most of the time) I still want to wrap up each word like a candy and take it home to suck on later.

P.S. I totally want that peppermint ring.

My knee has been hurting lately, bad. As a quick update, my left leg was broken below the knee last year when I got hit by a car. The pay out was how I was able to go ride camels in Israel back in October. However, there are times when my knee aches and keeps me awake, and even with my daily bike commuting I haven’t built all the muscle back.

Yoga is the way to go for an injury like this, but occasionally I need a little extra push. These cheeky yoga mats ($85) caught my eye in an old issue of Bust Magazine. The grass is my favorite because I’ve always wanted to do yoga outside, but the linoleum floor with spilled pills appeals to the side of me that doesn’t want to go to yoga at all.

Right now I’m listening to DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid on Weiden+Kennedy Radio. They’ve just returned from India with some sweet Bollywood style music, check it out on the podcast. It just has to make you happy.

Namaste, Monday.
