Castles for breakfast, or acorns?

Monday, November 17th, 2008

I bought my giant cupcake pan (see below) today at William Sonoma. It was $36, which seems steep even for Nordic Ware. They also had this pan that makes half acorns which you can stick together into whole acorns using something yummy. I imagined making breads or muffins in mini acorn shapes and sticking them together with jam or peanut butter so I could eat acorns every morning like a little squirrel in my winter nest. Fucking cute. Then I saw these mini castles which would make mini castle muffins.

And now I’m torn.

Big day.

Attack of the Giant Cupcake

Next week is my birthday. I’m getting myself this two-piece cake pan that creates one giant cupcake a half foot tall. Yes’m, I am. Where did I see this, you ask? Why, on the Cake Journal blog I read (check out the tips in particular).

Ok, I haven’t baked in ages, but I am a major fan of cakes and all things silly and this is both, with frosting and a cherry on top. My soon-to-be-a-famous-playwright friend Catie once made me a shirt with “Cake Enthusiast” across the chest, Superman style, and I need to earn my reputation back.

Anyway with this crap weather I may just hole up and produce giant cupcakes all winter. Someone bring a giant teacup (and some whiskey) and we’ll go from there.

My Organics to You Produce Bin

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

I started a weekly locally sourced produce bin service, thinking it would make me eat new things and also support local farmers through the long hard winter etc etc. Last week, aka the First Week or Our Lord Organic, they delivered it to the wrong porch and it was almost entirely onions, potatoes, and red peppers. That’s what I discovered when I finally retrieved it from the nice young family who broke it open and found my number and called a day later.

And soon I will be a rabbit
